About the City Cemeteries
Cape Girardeau Municipal Cemeteries include Historic Old Lorimier Cemetery (National Register of Historic Places), New Lorimier and Fairmount Cemeteries with a combined total of more than 25,000 burial spaces. A listing of known burials is available for inspection at the Cemetery Office or at City Hall. Fairmount Cemetery has around 200 burial spaces available for sale. Historic Old Lorimier Cemetery is closed to any new burials. Flower removal occurs twice yearly outside of regular maintenance beginning the week of March 10th and of October 10th of each year. Flowers need to be removed when they become faded or out of season. If not removed, cemetery staff will remove items in preparation of seasonal mowing (March-November). If a shepherd hook is being utilized on a grave site it will need to be removed for the mowing season.
