What’s Going on in Cape
What is a Crime Information Center
Bringing a Crime Information Center to Cape Girardeau is an initiative our Police Department has been evaluating for some time. While these centers require a significant financial investment, they provide a critical public safety resource that helps law enforcement stay ahead of evolving criminal activity. As technology continues to advance, law enforcement agencies must have access to modern tools that enable them to proactively respond and stay ahead of increasingly evolving and sophisticated criminal activities.
A Crime information center acts as a centralized database and intelligence hub that allows law enforcement agencies to instantly share and cross-reference critical data. It is essential for protecting officers, apprehending fugitives, locating missing persons, and solving cross-jurisdictional crimes in real-time.
Crime Information Centers typically integrate information from local, state, and federal agencies and provide capabilities such as:
Criminal History: Access to prior arrests, convictions, warrants, and other criminal justice records.
Asset Tracking: Registration and tracking of stolen vehicles, firearms, and other stolen property.
Safety Alerts: Immediate access to domestic violence protection orders, sex offender registries, and other officer safety information.
Missing Persons: Rapid distribution and sharing of information regarding missing, endangered, or runaway individuals across jurisdictions.
Live Incident Support: Real-time support for dispatchers and patrol officers through immediate access to 911 call information, traffic and security camera feeds, automated license plate reader (ALPR) data, and the ability to monitor stolen vehicles or fleeing suspects as incidents unfold.
By consolidating critical information into a single, integrated platform, a Crime Information Center enhances situational awareness, improves officer safety, increases investigative efficiency, and strengthens collaboration among local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.

Please Be Aware
Malicious campaigns are putting public services and critical data at risk. Phishing scams are increasingly targeting municipalities. In recent years phishing attacks on state and local governments have surged 360%.
It is important to recognize that no one can prevent these criminal attacks. However, we can continue to take defensive precautions, implement safeguards, and follow the newest protocols in order to mitigate the risk.
We are aware that there is a satire/parody page that resembles the City’s official government page called “Cape Girardeau City Council”. Please note that this page was not created by, nor is it endorsed by, the City. Our official page displays the official blue verification badge to confirm its authenticity.
Residents should rely on only the City’s Official website and verified social media accounts cityofcape.org/socialmedia for official city information, announcements, and updates.
