About the Red House Interpretive Center Committee

A Red House Interpretive Center Committee was initially set up when the Red Hats Society, under the direction of Jane Randall Jackson and Linda Nash, helped construct the Red House.

After construction, the Red House Committee gave the facility to the City of Cape Girardeau to oversee as part of the city’s history and heritage.  The operation and maintenance of the facility was put under the jurisdiction of the Parks and Recreation Department and the Parks and Recreation Foundation.  An Advisory Committee under the Parks and Recreation Foundation was created to help guide the Red House facility operations, fundraising and improvements.  A set of By-Laws has been adopted that guides the operations, and the members are appointed by a majority vote of the Committee.
