Upcoming Developments
- The substation is making good progress. Utilities, security systems, and equipment have been successfully installed. The inner doors and glass will be installed soon, while the installation of electronics, plumbing, and counters is scheduled for next week. The arrival of furniture is still pending, and we are currently reviewing quotes for window treatments.
- We are excited to announce the official ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Police Substation, located at 629 Good Hope, on Wednesday, September 3rd. This important milestone signifies a significant investment in public safety infrastructure and reaffirms our commitment to meeting the needs of the community.

- 08/04 – Vacation Bible School presentation at St. James AME Church, approximately 30 children

Public Works – August 18-22

- Streets crew is finishing a street patch on Holly and cleaning up debris from Tuesday’s storms.
- Stormwater crew is removing storm debris from the storm system.
- Wastewater crew responded to several lift station power outages.

- Continued work on updating/finalizing date in NFIRS
- Continued work on the transition to NERIS, the new national data base for incident reporting
- Preparing for SEMO Fair inspections/standby/staffing
- Completed a Driver Operator/Core State certification course for our newer personnel, and regional students
- Complete an 8 hour Hazardous Materials Refresher course for each of our three crews
- Participate in, and host, the Eastern Missouri MOSWIN Communications Exercise held at the SportsPlex, Monday – Wednesday
- Host the Area Maritime Security Committee, Port of Cape Girardeau Meeting with the U.S. Coast Guard

Parks – August 18-22

Events
- Cape Splash will be open Saturday August 23rd, 11 am – 6 pm and Sunday August 24th, 12 – 6 pm) Cape Splash will remain open weekends only through Labor Day.
- The Jaycee Golf Course will host the SEMO Electric Golf Tournament Friday August 21 and the TG Missouri Golf Tournament Saturday August 22nd.
- The SEMO District Fair will begin September 6th and run through the 13th. Set up will begin August 30th.
Impactful Projects
- The Youth Sports Complex project is moving forward. The contractor is now grading and leveling the project site which is expected to take another month. After that, they will begin roughing in electrical infrastructure. Dirt work has begun on the soccer/football fields along College Street. The contract for the lighting portion of the project is being completed.
- The Cape LaCroix Trail widening and overlay project from Bloomfield Road to Shawnee Park went out to bid Sunday August 17. The bids will remain open for three weeks. Construction is expected to begin as soon as the project is awarded, weather dependent.
- Bids have been received for improvements to the Shawnee Park Sports Complex. Improvements will include new fencing on fields 1-5, a complex wide PA system, bleacher shade structures and new bleachers. The project is partially funded by a grant through the Department of Economic Development for $264,289. Bids are currently being evaluated by staff. Improvements are expected to begin in October 2025.
