On behalf of the dedicated men and women of the Cape Girardeau Police Department it is my pleasure to welcome you to our presence on the web.
We, at the Cape Girardeau Police Department, are incredibly proud to serve our community. The men and women of the Cape Girardeau Police Department work diligently every day to ensure the safety of our citizens. As hard as we work at that, it wouldn't be possible without the incredible support and cooperation we get from you.

I am proud to announce that crime numbers in the city of Cape Girardeau have dropped over the course of 2017. We witnessed a 3% decrease in Park I Crimes and a 3.5% decrease in Part II Crimes. While these numbers are encouraging, we also recognized an increase in crimes involving weapons. We will be focusing on this growing concern in 2018 to make our community even safer.

In addition to the reduction in crime, we had some other significant achievements. In 2017, we needed to replace our two retiring K9s. After reaching out to the community, we not only secured funds for their replacement, but also received funding to add two additional dogs. That means that we will have a K9 available on every shift. Another remarkable achievement was the finalization of construction on a new police facility. As 2017 drew to a close, we reached substantial completion on the new police department and moved in on March 5, 2018. The upgrades to technology will allow us to serve more efficiently than in the past and we look forward to seeing the increased benefits to both our staff and our community.

Now that 2017 is behind us and great things are in store for 2018, I want to take this opportunity to thank you for the support you've given to your police department. We could not have had the success we did without the support of the citizens we protect. Thank you for your dedication to our community. We are looking forward to serving you with pride in 2018.

Wes Blair
Chief of Police
