As the world is gripped by the coronavirus pandemic, the Cape Girardeau area is united in response. Local health, public safety, schools, elected officials and City employees are working together to mitigate the impacts of the coronavirus. We must continue observing good hygiene and housekeeping practices that protect our homes, workplaces and our most vulnerable populations. *Limit your public activity to slow the spread of COVID-19*

Coronavirus is a respiratory virus, which is similar to other viruses. The Cape Girardeau County Health Department and the Center for Disease Control (CDC) have provided the following guidance regarding measures to prevent exposures to acute respiratory illnesses:
    • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
    • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
    • Follow normal respiratory etiquette and hand hygiene.  Cover coughs and sneezes.
    • Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds; especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.  If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with 60%-95% alcohol.
    • Follow normal environmental health actions.  Routinely clean frequently touched surfaces and objects such as:  door knobs, countertop surfaces, workplace equipment, etc.

Facility & Service Impacts as of March 25:

City Hall - All public offices, including Customer Service/utility billing and Development Services are closed to the public. Utility payments are being accepted by phone, in addition to the online and auto-payment options. A secure dropbox is located near City Hall's Customer Service entrance for cash/check payments and applications for new and transfer services. These services can also be initiated by emailing customerservice@cityofcape.org.  Disconnects for non-payment have been postponed so all households will have water for hygiene purposes. Late fees are not being assessed.

Customer service representatives are available by phone, email and fax Monday – Saturday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. New business/liquor license applications can be submitted, but they will not be processed or issued until return of normal operations/inspections.

Liquor Licenses, Hotel/Motel/Restaurant Taxes - In an effort to assist the local businesses during this difficult time, the City has implemented processes relating to the hotel/motel/restaurant monthly tax filings and liquor licensing – Additional Information Here

Municipal Court – Cancelled through April 17; the Court office, though closed to the public, will send out summonses with new court dates. Court representatives are available by phone, email and fax Monday - Saturday, 7 am to 7 pm. Payments can be made online, by phone or by mail.

Parks & Recreation Department - All activity is suspended. All facilities (A. C. All programming is being postponed. We ask for your patience as we go through the logistics of adjusting and accommodating re-scheduling of events, programs, leagues and rentals whenever possible. A staff member will be in contact with you about programming changes if you are currently registered for any programs. We will be happy to provide you with a credit to your account for a future event/activity or a full refund if desired.
