About Community Services Unit
The Community Service Officer (CSO) serves as the focal point for communication between the citizens and the police department and facilitates a cohesive and proactive approach to problem-solving by the department. Our CSO also serves as our landlord liaison.
The CSO accomplishes this by identifying community concerns, developing strategies to address those concerns, accessing the appropriate agency, department, or personnel with the resources to positively affect a resolution, and evaluating the effectiveness of those efforts on an ongoing basis by regularly following up with community and staff members.

The Community Service Officer, as part of his/her proactive approach, performs a variety of crime prevention strategies such as:
- Safety Presentations
- Coordinating National Night Out Against Crime Activities
- Community Speaking Engagements
- Check on Patrols
- Attending community meetings

The Cape Girardeau Police Department Community Service Officers provide crime prevention presentations such as how to protect yourself against identity theft and financial crimes to local organizations. Our Community Service Officers also provide training to businesses, service groups, citizens, and other organizations in the City of Cape Girardeau.
Our goal is to provide programs and strategies to reduce crime and create community partners throughout Cape Girardeau. Our trainings focus on methods used to prevent crime and encourage community engagement.
