Coffee with Cops
Coffee with Cops is an opportunity for the public to meet with officers in a comfortable environment and talk about any subject – from crime trends to neighborhood nuisance issues, public safety management, to how to join our team. You bring the questions, talk with an officer, and you get a free cup of coffee!
The Cape Girardeau Police Department works in conjunction with local businesses to host this event in the fall and winter months. Check our website and social media platforms to know when and where!
National Night Out
Neighborhood Roll Call
The public is invited to meet their patrol officers to discuss local issues and concerns with the officers protecting their neighborhood.

Police Appearance Request
The Cape Girardeau Police Department’s Special Operations Division can arrange for a uniformed police officer to visit your neighborhood get-together, meeting, or school function. In some cases, certain pieces of the police department’s specialized equipment can be demonstrated. To arrange for a police officer to speak with your group, contact Lt. Brad Smith at (573) 335-6621, Extension 1148.
Special Olympics
Cape Girardeau Police Department employees are active in charity events throughout the year. Our charity of choice is the Missouri Special Olympics. Events such as “Tip A Cop”, the annual “Law Enforcement Torch Run”, and the annual “Polar Plunge” help us raise the needed funds for Special Olympics.
Tip A Cop: Members of the police department serve food and drinks to restaurant patrons and accept “tips” for their service. One hundred present of these proceeds go directly to Special Olympics. Athletes from our area are also in attendance to assist and serve as greeters and wait staff.
Torch Run: Our officers are among 750 law enforcement officers state-wide who participate in this annual event. Officers lace up their running shoes and head up Kingshighway to raise funds and awareness for the Missouri Special Olympics.
Polar Plunge: Every February, several officer don costumes and swimwear to take a chilly dip into Lake Boutin. The Cape Girardeau Police Department raises over $1,500 for this event that goes directly to Special Olympics.
