Pipes & Drums

Honor Guard 2007 School ParadeThe Cape Girardeau Fire Department Pipes & Drums was officially established in late 2007 with support from the Department and Local 1084. Without the two we would not have been able to go as far as we have. Both continue to support and believe in our mission and help us in any way possible. We as a pipe band are grateful for their support and the opportunity that has been given to us to represent our fire department.

Pipes & DrumsThe Pipes & Drums have been a long standing tradition in the fire service. The tradition of bagpipes in the fire department goes back over 150 years. Pipers played at firefighter funerals because firefighters and police officers were among the only jobs the Irish immigrants could get when they came to the United States. Soon families and friends of non-Irish firefighters began requesting pipers to play for these fallen heroes. (Photo by Michale Johnson.)

We are very proud to be members of the Pipes & Drums because of the honor it brings to our department. We have performed at numerous functions which include parades, banquets, fire memorials and funerals.

The Tartan that the Cape Girardeau Pipes & Drums chose was the Marine Corps “Leatherneck” kilt. We chose this kilt to pay honor and respect to all U.S. service men and women for what they have done for our country.
