The City of Cape Girardeau will recognize the Christmas and New Year's Day holiday on Fridays Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. Many offices will be closed.
Trash & Recycling Curbside Service Holiday Schedules

There will be no trash or recycling pickup on Friday Dec. 25 or Jan. 1.
- Holiday Schedule Those Weeks: Thursday's trash/recycling route will be run on Wednesday, and Friday's routes will be run on Thursday. All other routes remain the same.
- Too much trash to fit in the cart? A few extra bags of trash will be collected for two weeks between Dec. 28 and Jan. 8. Place the extra bags near your cart on your trash day (follow the holiday schedule above if applicable). The Truck Driver will dump your cart like normal, get out and load the bags into your can, and dump it one extra time.
- Extra recycling? Residents can drop-off extra recycling anytime free at our drive through on 2007 Southern Expressway.
- Leftover Christmas Tree? Drop-off your tree for free as of Dec. 28 in the southeast corner of Arena Park near the mulch area. You can also schedule a Wednesday Special Pickup by calling Public Works at 573-339-6351. Usual charges apply if you have already used your annual free pickup.
Customer Service will be open to the public Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 401 Independence Street. You can also call by phone 573-339-6322, email our staff, or submit comments or inquiries online.
Public safety and infrastructure services run 24 hours per day, everyday regardless of holidays and inclement weather.
