Wrong Amount Due on Some City Bills

Some City of Cape Girardeau water, sewer and trash customers received bills this week that show the wrong previous balance and total amount due. The error occurred in exporting account balances to a third party vendor to print and mail the bills. Automatic payments were not affected. One-fourth of all City utility bills are mailed each week. Only the bills dated Sept. 12 and sent to homes in the northwest corner of the city were affected (see map).

Staff is working with the software vendor to prevent the billing error from occurring again. All payments and account information are correct and secure - no customer action is necessary. Customers can, however, check their account balances online, request a balance verification by email, or call Customer Service at 573-339-6322.

We apologize for this inconvenience and will continue working to make sure bills are sent in a satisfactory manner in the future.
