Posted on 10/01/2018
The South Sprigg Street Bridge Project was recently awarded as project of the year for 2018 by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) St. Louis Section. The award was given to those involved with the project during the ASCE St. Louis Section annual awards dinner on Sept. 21 in St. Louis.

This is the second time the project has been awarded, previously receiving an Engineering Excellence award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Missouri (ACEC Missouri) on Feb. 10.

The project addressed the restoration of the bridge and roadway through an area with multiple, large, and active sinkholes. The sinkholes became extremely active in 2007, forcing closure of the road several times over the next six years. The road was closed indefinitely in 2013 until a more permanent solution could be completed. Construction was finished and the road opened to traffic in October 2017.
