Fire at 33 N. Henderson St. - May 25, 2018
Posted on 05/25/2018
C & A-platoons were dispatched to an apartment house fire in the unit block of North Henderson Street just before 0700 hour shift change on May 25, 2018. Upon arrival, crews found a 1-1/2 story, 3-unit apartment house with dense, brown smoke pushing from all sides. Initial reports were of people still in the basement apartment so crews immediately began primary searches, however, the occupants were quickly accounted for, already out of the building.

The dense smoke, coupled with the odd layout of the apartment house challenged interior attack teams trying to locate the seat of the fire and carry out primary searches, but a coordinated ventilation effort, including opening the roof to create the desired vertical flow path improved those conditions.

The fire was contained mostly to the first floor apartment and ceiling space, with surprisingly little extension to the second floor.

Damage type: Fire and smoke
Extent of damage: Extensive
