Cape Girardeau Fire Department's B-Platoon responded to a Box Alarm in the 2900 block of La Mesa Drive just before 5 a.m. on Aug. 7, 2018.

Rescue 4 arrived to find a camper along side a single family home engulfed in flames. The fire had already spread into the attic of the home, and was spreading to the neighboring house. Residents of both homes had evacuated safely, after being alerted by a bicyclist, who discovered the fire during his morning ride.

Rescue 4's crew immediately went to work getting water on the fire and the exposures. Ladder 1 and Engines 3, 2, and 1 coordinated efforts to enter the house, pull ceilings and ventilate the roof to stop and extinguish the attic fire, then removed the garage door and completed extinguishment in the garage. A small fire in the attic of the neighboring home was quickly contained.

The fire was brought under control in about 15 minutes, and crews remained to overhaul for an additional hour or so. There were no injuries.
