Police Department – September 7-13

Public Works – September 15-19

  • Street crews continue work on patching Grant Street, mowing, and trimming limbs/trees.
  • Stormwater crew is finishing dressing up a pipe replacement on Missouri Avenue and mowing and removing sediment from detention basins.
  • 2” water crew is working on a water main replacement on Franklin Avenue.

Fire Department- September 15-19

  • 2 structure fires, 44 medical assists

Parks- September 15-19

Events

  • The Osage Centre will host Optimist Bingo Friday, September 19, from 6 to 9 p.m.
  • Shawnee Park Sports Complex will host a USSSA Boys Baseball Tournament Saturday and Sunday, September 20 and 21.

Impactful Projects

  • Construction for the Cape LaCroix Trail widening and overlay project from Bloomfield Road to Shawnee Park is expected to begin later this Fall or in Spring 2026. The project will be partially funded by a grant through the Missouri Department of Transportation for $481,000.
  • Improvements to the Shawnee Park Sports Complex will include new fencing on fields 1-5, a complex wide PA system, bleacher shade structures, and new bleachers. The project is partially funded by a grant through the Department of Economic Development for $264,289. Improvements are expected to begin in October 2025.
  • A company cleaned the moss and algae off the pond at Capaha Park on September 16. A plan is being developed to try to keep the algae from returning.

Development Services – September 15-19

Street Updates

  • Perryville – Between Cape Rock and Lexington
    • Still closed
    • Pavement work is finished, and crews are completing backfilling and joint sealing
    • Estimated completion is end of Sept
  • Lexington – Between Perryville and Caro
    • Westbound lane is closed, eastbound lane is open
    • Within 2 weeks westbound lane will be open and East bound will be closed
    • Estimated completion time is 2 months
  • S. Sprigg
    • Still closed – but local residents can still use the street
    • Still working on water main replacement and infrastructure under the street
    • Estimated time of completion is 12-31-2025.

Airport – September 12-18


The SEMO Football Team Charter accounted for 130 enplanements, and The Iowa volleyball team accounted for 30 enplanements.

What’s Going on in Cape

1. Water Proposal Rate Increase

At the beginning of October, City Council will consider the first 10% water rate increase. As a reminder, please see plan below

2. CBDG Program Updates

The City of Cape Girardeau has successfully completed and received HUD approval of its five-year Consolidated Plan for the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. This plan outlines the City’s strategy to invest federal funds into affordable housing, neighborhood revitalization, and community development initiatives that support low- and moderate-income residents. City staff are now developing the program’s internal processes and procedures to ensure full compliance with HUD regulations. Once finalized, the City will receive HUD’s notice to proceed, allowing housing and neighborhood improvement projects to begin moving forward.
