Public Works

• Streets crews continue patching on Julie Street, filling potholes, and grinding bumps and high spots on several streets.
• Stormwater crews are conducting CDL training, inspecting low-lying areas and creeks, and mowing detention basins.
• The 2-inch Water Crew continues work on replacing a 2-inch water line on Hazel Street.

Fire Department

Parks

May 18- May 22

Programs and Community Events:

• Community Bingo will be held Friday, May 22, at the Osage Centre beginning at 6:30 p.m.

• The SportsPlex will host the Threat Hoops Basketball Tournament Friday, May 22, through Sunday, May 24. More than 50 teams are expected to visit Cape Girardeau for the weekend.

• Yoga in the Park will be held every Saturday through the end of September at the Capaha Park Band Shell from 8:15–9:15 a.m. Admission is $5 per person.

• Cape Splash Family Aquatic Center will open Saturday, May 23, at 11:00 a.m. Memorial Day weekend hours will be Saturday from 11:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. and Sunday and Monday from 12:00–6:00 p.m.

• The Nashville Road Show will come to Cape Girardeau on June 5, 2026, featuring performances by emerging Nashville music artists at Arena Park. Tickets are available through All Nashville Roadshow       .

Impactful Projects:

• Phase 1 of the Youth Sports Complex project is complete and included construction of five baseball fields. Phase 2, which includes football fields on the north side of Shawnee Parkway, is currently underway. Construction is expected to be completed in early summer 2026.
• Work continues on the Cape LaCroix Trail project. Apex Paving has begun laying asphalt on the trail from Bloomfield Road to Shawnee Park. Project completion is anticipated in fall 2026. During construction, the southern section of the trail will remain closed.
• Planning is underway for replacement of the cart shed at Jaycee Golf Course, with construction scheduled to begin in fall 2026. In addition, the upper parking lot at the golf course is scheduled to receive an asphalt overlay in fall 2026.
