Upcoming Programs and Events:
- The Sportsplex will host a NSSC Volleyball Tournament Saturday February 21 and Sunday February 22. There will be over 80 teams coming to Cape Girardeau for the weekend.
- The Osage Centre will host the 18th Annual Father Daughter Dance Saturday February 21 at the Osage Centre from 6-9 pm. This event will be organized and offered by the Parks and Recreation Staff.
- Community Bingo will be held Friday February 20 at the Osage Centre beginning at 6:30 pm.
- Spring Youth Soccer League begins March 10. Registrations are currently being accepted.
- The Annual Mother/son Game Night will held at the Sportsplex March 13 from 6-9 pm. Space is limited so get registrations in early
- The Annual Health and Wellness Expo and PLAY CAPE! Saturday will be held March 14 from 9 am – 1 pm at the Osage Centre. The event will feature activities for the entire family.
Impactful Projects
- The Youth Sports Complex project continues to progress. The contractor is moving ahead of schedule. The infield turf on the new fields is complete. The fencing contractor continues installing fencing. The exterior of the concession building is complete. The interior of the concession stand is currently being painted and is being prepared for equipment installation.
- The concrete contractor continues pouring concrete for the dugouts and walkways**, and the** bleacher canopies are being installed. The landscapers are progressing with final grading of the outfields and the installation of irrigation. The lights have been installed and are ready to turn on. Turf installation on softball fields 1–5 has started and is progressing as expected.
- The project is expected to be complete in spring 2026, just in time for a full lineup of softball and baseball tournaments. We are anticipating a soft opening on March 20, hosting a 30-team tournament.
- A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Thursday, February 19, to celebrate the addition of a half-pipe at the Cape Noon Optimist Club Wheel Park. The $104,000 project was made possible by the Cape Noon Optimist Club and the Parks and Recreation Foundation.
Development Services
- South Sprigg – 95% of the utilities are complete. Crews are completing the concrete patching, once the asphalt plant opens overlay will be completed.
- 2025 Concrete Street Repair – Minnesota (Southern Expressway to Rust) is in progress.
- 2026 Asphalt/Concrete Repairs – Streets are currently being evaluated for needed repairs.
- Melrose Street – The street is closed to install a box culvert.
- TTF7 RFQ was released Friday, February 13.
- Demolition of old Pear Tree Inn has begun

Convention and Visitors Bureau Update
The Convention and Visitors Bureau will collaborate with a St. Louis-based consultant to reassess goals, objectives, and key priorities and develop a strategic plan. They will work closely with staff, the CVB Board, and key stakeholders throughout this process.
We Need Your Input: State Law Temporarily Extends Alcohol Service Hours During 2026 FIFA World Cup
Missouri has enacted Section 311.2026, which temporarily extends alcohol service hours for licensed establishments across the state. From June 11 through July 19, 2026, any person or establishment that is licensed to sell intoxicating liquor by the drink at retail for consumption on the premises may operate and sell alcohol 24 hours a day. Standard state restrictions on hours of operation will not apply during this temporary extension. The City may opt out of the extended hours or modify the allowable service times by ordinance.
