Training

4/06 – 04/10 – Police Chief  attended the final week of command college in Jefferson City. Topics included 21st century policing, racial profiling, implicit bias, grant writing and applications, Missouri P.O.S.T. reporting requirements, and health and wellness issues for police.

4/9 – 4/10 – Five CGPD officers attended the annual CIT conference at Lake of the Ozarks.

Public Works

April 12- 17

• Street crews are making repairs on Julie Drive, filling potholes, and trimming trees.
• The Stormwater crew is conducting floodwall and levee inspections, beginning basin mowing rotation, and cleaning the system ahead of upcoming rain events.
• The 2” Water crew is completing yard restoration and performing equipment maintenance.

Parks

April 12-17

Programs and Events:

• The Sportsplex will host the Reebok Series Showdown Super Regional Basketball Tournament on Saturday and Sunday, April 18–19.
• Community Bingo will be held Friday, April 17, at the Osage Centre beginning at 6:30 p.m.
• The Annual Friends of the Park Day / Great Cape Clean-Up will take place Saturday, April 18, at Capaha Park beginning at 8:30 a.m.
• The Cape Aquatic Center will host the River City Showdown Long Course Swim Meet Friday, April 17, through Sunday, April 19. The event is expected to host approximately 175 swimmers.
• The Shawnee Park Sports Complex will host a USSSA Fast Pitch Softball Tournament Friday, April 17, through Sunday, April 19. More than 58 teams are expected in Cape for the weekend.
• The Arena Building will host the Mother Earth Holistic Fair on Saturday, April 18, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• The Osage Centre will host the Watch and Clock Angels Doll Show Friday, April 17, and Saturday, April 18.
• Jefferson Aquatic Center will host a Family Movie Night on Saturday, April 25, beginning at 6 p.m.

Impactful Projects:

• The Youth Sports Complex project is substantially complete. Staff completed a walkthrough on Tuesday, April 14, at 11 a.m. and took possession of the complex on Wednesday, April 15, just in time for a soft opening that included several team practices on the new turf fields. The first tournament is scheduled for April 17–19, with 30 tournaments planned this season. Congratulations to everyone involved in delivering this outstanding facility!
• Work has begun on the Cape LaCroix Trail project. Apex Paving is widening and overlaying the trail from Bloomfield Road to Shawnee Park, with completion anticipated in fall 2026. The southern section of the trail will be closed during construction.
• The bid has been awarded for cleaning and painting the exterior of the Shawnee Park Center. Work is underway and is expected to be completed by early summer.
• Cape Splash Family Aquatic Center is receiving several upgrades ahead of the upcoming season. Improvements include a freshly painted concession and restroom building, installation of a fence around the splash pad for a more family-friendly environment, new soft surfacing around the Pirate Ship area, and resurfaced shower house floors.
• The Golf Course has received 28 new golf carts, replacing more than half of the existing fleet. The remaining carts are scheduled for replacement in spring 2027.
