Stormwater Projects

Part of the Parks, Recreation & Stormwater Initiative

On April 8, 2008, citizens of Cape Girardeau passed a 1/2-cent sales tax for parks and stormwater improvements (PRS1). This plan included a 3/8-cent sales tax which has a 10-year sunset and will expire on Sept. 30, 2018. The remaining 1/8-cent is for operations and does not expire. All of the revenue collected stays in the City of Cape Girardeau and by law must be used for parks and stormwater programs. Studies have shown that 60 percent or more of the revenue collected is from non-residents visiting Cape to shop, work and play.

Twelve stormwater projects were identified in the original proposal and all of them have been completed. We  also identified five additional projects which are complete.
