My name is James Newman and I teach courses related to public administration and political science. Specifically, I teach the introductory course in American government, state and local governing, public policy and research methods. It is my goal that students will leave my courses with an understanding and appreciation of the material in a way that will bring government to life in a real and relevant manner.
My academic background includes an undergraduate degree from the University of Alabama and a Ph.D. in Public Policy and Administration from Mississippi State University.
Over the years, I have worked with local nonprofit organizations in marketing development and program evaluation. I continue to work with nonprofit and local government organizations in Cape. This experience allows me to put into practice what I teach and in turn bring the ‘real world’ into the classroom.
On a personal note, I am a resident of Missouri and a native of Alabama. Previously, I have lived in Idaho, Mississippi, Tennessee, North Carolina and Georgia. When I am not teaching, I enjoy traveling. I have visited 41 of the 50 states. After I achieve my goal of visiting all fifty states, it is my goal to visit more countries. Canada, Panama and Brazil are the only foreign countries I have visited.
