About Your Streets
more than 230 miles of streets and 22 miles of alleyways. This is
roughly the same distance as a drive to St. Louis and back. The average
age of our streets is close to 35 years. About two-thirds of our streets
are lighter-colored concrete, and the remaining streets are dark
asphalt. The pie chart to e right shows that most of our city streets were

|Repair & Maintenance Programs
Asphalt Overlay: Yearly asphalt street resurfacing is funded through the
TTF program, prioritized by the street management staff, and is usually

POTHOLES: We use “cold mix” asphalt to fill potholes quickly
economically, even in the cooler months.
SECTIONS: Unlike the cold mix, “hot mix” asphalt must be
applied in the
warmer months and can be used on longer sections of road.
Street & Lane Closure Alerts
Utility companies, contractors, government agencies, and other private
entities close streets for various repairs and projects. Thank you for
being mindful of the workers on site. Known and substantial closures are
posted on the City’s website and social media, and sent to
our weekly email subscribers and local media. When possible, we will
post signage in the affected neighborhood in advance.
