Free Smoke Detectors!
The City of Cape Girardeau Fire Department and all Cape Girardeau County Fire Departments, in conjunction with Southeast Missouri Hospital, the Cape Girardeau Area Safe Kids Coalition, and Zonta Club International, are sponsoring a smoke detector give-away program for newborns in Cape Girardeau City and County. The program has been designed to provide a smoke detector, or battery replacement for an existing detector, for each family with a newborn in residence.
Other Smoke Detectors
Smoke detectors are installed and existing detectors are checked for proper operation on an on-going basis as part of the Fire Department’s Public Education Program. This program is based on economic need and the availability of detectors since they are installed free of charge. The detectors are donated by various civic organizations and are installed by members of the civic group and personnel from the Fire Department. This is done at various times during the year. The service is free of charge.
