Can the City Attorney’s Office give me personal legal advice?
No. The City Attorney’s Office serves solely as the legal counsel to the City Council and City staff regarding City business.

Can I have a public defender appointed to represent me in Municipal Court for my ordinance violation?
No. The public defender system of the State of Missouri only represents defendants charged with a state misdemeanor or felony offense. Those crimes are not heard in Municipal Court.

Must I appear in court if I was served with a municipal subpoena?
Yes. A properly served subpoena constitutes an Order of the Court, which citizens must obey or be subject to possible punishment ranging from a fine of up to $500 and a jail sentence of up to 90 days.
