Job Announcements as of May 1, 2008 Wastewater Treatment Operator (Shift Worker) The City of Cape Girardeau, Public Works Department, Wastewater Treatment Plant is seeking qualified applicants for employment in the position of Wastewater Treatment Operator (Shift Worker). Position is responsible for participating in the operation of the wastewater treatment plant and related facilities, programs and activities. Position regulates wastewater flow into the plant during inclement weather conditions; operates, maintains and repairs plant equipment; performs regular inspections of equipment and systems operation; performs custodial duties; answers the telephone; provides information as requested; screens calls, takes messages and forwards calls; responds to emergency call out situations as required. This position performs related work as required. Majority of work is performed in an office, at the treatment plant facilities and outdoors. Minimum qualifications: High School diploma or equivalency. Must be willing to work rotating shifts. Must obtain the "D" level Missouri Department of Natural Resources operator level certification/license within two years of employment in this position. The position must also maintain a valid Class “E” Drivers License. Beginning annual salary of $25,643.78 with generous benefit package. GENERAL WORKER – PUBLIC WORKS Traffic Operations (Part Time/Temporary Position) The City of Cape Girardeau is currently accepting applications for part time/temporary Seasonal Worker – Traffic Operations - Public Works Department. Position is responsible for miscellaneous maintenance activities such as sign installation, work zone/special event traffic control and pavement marking. Applicant should posses basic skills needed to operate tools appropriate for required tasks. Community Planner The City of Cape Girardeau is seeking a highly-motivated and energetic person to join our Planning Services Division. The Community Planner will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including the implementation of a newly adopted Comprehensive Plan, review of rezoning and special use permit applications, and the development of a new zoning ordinance and subdivision regulations. This position provides excellent opportunities for interdepartmental cooperation through the City Development Review Group, as well as exposure to diverse planning activities through assistance to the Planning and Zoning Commission and the City Council. The successful applicant will possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Planning or a related field (Master’s degree preferred). Experience in a planning office a plus. A capacity for effective teamwork and the ability to clearly communicate technical information to non-technical audience are essential to this position. Workers must have a positive attitude towards the public and fellow co-workers. This position at times would supervise the Shawnee Park Sports Complex Facility when a full-time employee is not present. Working weekends is required. Hourly rate: $ 8.50 per hour. Seasonal Ball-Field Maintenance Workers Job duties will include ball-field maintenance, mowing, weed eating and other maintenance duties. Majority of work will be performed outside in hot and humid weather. Must be able to establish and maintain a good attendance and good working relationship with supervisor and co-workers. Working weekends is required. Hourly rate: $ 6.65 - $ 9.00 per hour. Softball Umpires Umpire Men’s, co-ed and Church Slow-Pitch Softball Leagues as well as Women’s/Girl’s Fast Pitch Softball Leagues. Hourly rate: $11:00 per hour. Scorekeepers This position is responsible for the official scorekeeping duties involved with our Summer Softball Leagues and tournaments. Working weekends is required. Hourly rate: $6.65 per hour. Concession Workers This position is responsible for concession revenue, inventory and preparing food. Recreation Division/Osage Community Centre Class Instructors This position is responsible for instructing a variety of youth classes throughout the summer. Most classes meet two times a week for 1 -2 hours per class. Some classes meet for a longer period of time. Candidates must be able to work well with children of all ages and must have an energetic personality. Previous experience is recommended. Hourly rate: $ 6.65 per hour. Activity Coordinator This position is responsible for supervising the gym and weight room at the Osage Community Centre. Other opportunities include scorekeeping for high school volleyball and basketball leagues. Candidates must have a positive attitude towards the public and fellow co-workers.
