Interactive Leaf Map for Scheduled Dates
Leaf Season Brochure - 2016
| October 3, 2016 - March 31, 2017
|Residents have several options for leaf removal:
Loose Leaf Curbside Collection consists of 3 phases:
- Loose Leaf Curbside Collection
- Wednesday Special Pickups/Compost Bags
- Haul Your Leaves
Phase 1 - October 3 through October 31
Runs through the month of October where the automated leaf truck travels the entire City continuously on unscheduled routes.
Phase 2 - November 1st through December 17 (or until all routes have been completed)
During Phase 2, the truck runs the designated routes that can be found on the leaf map. The truck will only collect leaves at each residence one time during this phase. To ensure the best service, possible during this phase, it is important that residents rake their leaves to the curb before the start date of their route.
Be aware that scheduled routes can be effected by the weather. Depending on how severe the weather is, collection of leaves for each route may be delayed. Completed routes will be reflected on the leaf map.
Phase 3 - December 19th - March 31st
Begins at the end of Phase 2 when all scheduled routes have been completed at least once and continues through March 31st. During Phase 3, the leaf truck will travel the City continuously on unscheduled routes and may be at each residence more than once.
Curbside Collection Helpful Hints
- Rake leaves to the curb prior to scheduled start date in phase 2
- Keep leaves no more than 3' from street or between the street and sidewalk

- Pile will not be picked up if it has anything in it besides leaves. No garden material, small twigs, limbs or any material other than leaves will be picked up
- Leaf collection may be delayed or postponed due to inclement weather
Wednesday Special Pickup for Leaves
in City Compost Bags
Compost bags are sold year round at Schnucks, Food Giant, City Hall, and Public Works
(five for $6.25). After purchasing your City yard waste bags, call
Public Works to schedule a Wednesday pickup. There is no charge for the
pickup. Be sure to purchase the City compost bags - they are the ones
with the bright green stickers. This service is available year around.
Haul Your Leaves
Containers will be available at the Recycling Center at 2007 Southern Expressway for free leaf drop off for City of Cape Girardeau residents only. The containers will be accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week October 3rd through March 31st. Please note that this is a new location. The compost is "aged" and made available to
the public in the southeast corner of Arena Park (where the animals are
during the Fair) on a first come first serve basis.
Residents can also mulch their existing leaves into
their lawn by simply mowing over them. This is the most environmentally friendly option because it can release nutrients into the soil and improve the
health of the lawn.
