Trash & Recycling
The holiday schedule will be in effect the week of Sept. 1. Monday's trash/recycling route will
be run on Tuesday. Tuesdays trash/recycling route will be run on
Wednesday. All other routes remain the same.
Many offices will be closed including customer service at Public Works and City Hall, the A.C. Brase Arena and Development Services. The Osage Centre and Shawnee Park Center will both be open on their regular schedule.
City Council Meetings Rescheduled in September
September Council meetings will be held on the second and fourth Mondays.
Labor Day at Fort D Historic Site: Sept. 1st 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Labor Day is typically a day of rest, but the soldiers and civilians at Fort D will be busy preparing for fall. Join local reenactors as they demonstrate rifle and cannon fire and enjoy hammered dulcimer music at 11 a.m. Admission is free.
- An accelerated concrete repair program will address
15 groups of repairs across the city to be complete by
the end of 2014.
This is in addition to the annual concrete repair and
program of the City's 233+ miles of streets. For more

- Independence is closed between Fountain and
Lorimier. Nearby sections of Themis and Frederick are also subject to closure as the work progresses.
- The City, MoDOT, utility companies and other
contractors could be working on additional projects throughout the city.

Register by August 22 for the 2014 Corporate Games. Corporate Games is an annual event developed to
promote healthier lifestyles, teamwork, participation, and fun for Cape
Girardeau area businesses and employee-based organizations. The
competition consists of diverse team events, encouraging participation
from individuals of all interests and abilities. More information.
Staff proposed starting a Neighborhood Development Initiative (NDI) at a recent City Council meeting. The NDI would connect residents with resources to improve quality of life in their neighborhood. Volunteers are needed for the City’s citizen advisory boards
and commissions. Applicants are appointed by the City Council.
Boards draft and execute City plans and policies related to
development, infrastructure, policy and quality of life. All meetings
