City Council and City Manager’s Office
The City Needs Advisory Board Applicants
The City of Cape Girardeau wants you!
Volunteers are needed for the City’s 14 Citizen Advisory Boards. Applicants are appointed by the City Council and must be Cape Girardeau residents.
Citizens who wish to participate can print out an application [PDF format] to mail in. Please make sure to note which board(s) you are interested in joining. When a vacancy arises, the applications on file for that board are pulled and the City Council makes an appointment. The boards meet monthly and make recommendations to the City Council. Meeting times and locations vary by board. Each board has a City staff contact person who meets with the board at their regular meeting.
The boards include Airport Board, Board of Adjustment, Board of Appeals, Board of Examiners, Golf Course Advisory Board, Historic Preservation Commission, Parks & Recreation Advisory Board, Planning & Zoning Commission, Public Library Board, River Campus Board of Managers, Show Me Center Board of Managers, Special Business District Advisory Commission, Tree Board, and Vision 2020 Community Relations Council.
Descriptions of the purpose and functions of specific advisory boards and commissions are available online . Citizens who wish to participate should submit a completed Advisory Board Member Summary Sheet [PDF format] and return it to the City Manager’s Office at City Hall (401 Independence). For more information, call the City Manager’s Office at 573-334-1212.
