Our Wastewater Division
Current Wastewater Plant was originally built in 1962 and upgraded in 1977 to secondary treatment. It underwent a $1.8 million rehabilitation in 2003.
In 1988 the City of Cape Girardeau started recycling biosolids
Plant is designed to handle 7 MGD (Millions of Gallons Daily) and is manned 24 hours a day/7 days a week
Operates and maintains the Industrial Pretreatment Program
6 Wastehauler Permits; 1 Categorical Industrial Permit; 2 Significant Industrial User Permits
Accepts 70 loads of septage/grease per month from Wastehaulers
Conducts monitoring and lab tests to assure EPA and DNR quality requirements are met
Annually applies 6,500,000 gallons of biosolids to farmland by the subsurface method
Operates and maintains 30 Lift Stations
SCADA System (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) monitors 24 Lift Stations
Tours are given to students - including SEMO University Students Email or call for tour information
Classes are given at the plant to maintain Missouri DNR Clean Water Certificate of Competency Licenses held by employees - classes are often attended by employees from other cities and divisions
Provides manpower to monitor Mill Street Pump Station during high river levels
Maintains an active participation in the Missouri Water and Wastewater Conference
Strives to keep informed on ever changing DNR and EPA regulations regarding wastewater
