The Cape Girardeau Police Department is seeking citizens who are interested in attending the Cape Girardeau Police Department's Citizens Academy.  The Citizen Police Academy consists of eight weekly sessions lasting two hours each.  The academy will familiarize citizens with the daily activities and services that the police department offers with the goal of enhancing the spirit of cooperation between police and the community.
 
The academy will begin on Thursday, March 4, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. at Police Headquarters located at 40 South Sprigg Street.  It will continue each Thursday evening through March 22, 2010.

Records Clerk Esther French retired from the department on January 29th after serving the department for 10 years. During 2008, the Records Unit processed 10,925 original police reports, numerous supplemental reports and several thousand traffic tickets.
