Citizens, property owners, Planning and Zoning Commissioners, City Council members, and staff were able to discuss various aspects of the proposed regulations at the Open House. These five sections of the Development Code were referred back to the Development Code Committee so that revisions based on the discussion at the Open House could be incorporated in the proposed regulations.
Brownfields Cleanup: The City of Cape Girardeau has been awarded a $20,000 grant from the Missouri Brownfields Revolving Loan Fund to remove two (2) gas tanks and cleanup the site at the former Mason Street Gas Station property located at 216 Mason Street. The Division of Planning Services performs many different services for the citizens of Cape Girardeau. These services include planning and zoning issues, housing programs, enterprise zone, property acquisitions for new streets and utilities, downtown revitalization, historic preservation, administration of State and Federal Grants, and staff support for the Planning and Zoning Commission, the Historic Preservation Commission, the Downtown Special Business District, the City Council and City Manager's Office. The Division also administers annexations, rezoning applications, special use permit applications, historic landmark applications, Certificate of Appropriateness, subdivision plats, and zoning violations.
