Planning for Cape Girardeau's Future
Comprehensive Plan
A Comprehensive Plan is a long-range 10-20 year blueprint for a community's physical development. It is based on a vision of the community and portrays the dynamic, unique qualities in which residents see their City. The last comprehensive planning process was done in 2007.
A successful Comprehensive Plan identifies the issues and present goals, objectives and policies which provide a framework for community decision-making. This plan affects how Cape Girardeau develops in the future, including traffic and land use patterns, future housing development, industrial growth, retail opportunities and new road patterns.
In the fall of 2006, City Staff began the process of updating the City's Comprehensive Plan. Through the process, citizens were empowered to contribute to the decision-making process by participating in public workshops, surveys, focus sessions and stakeholder interviews.
After extensive input, the Comprehensive Plan was presented at a joint City Council/Planning and Zoning Commission meeting on August 16, 2007. Listed below is the adopted Comprehensive Plan and various maps.
