Refund Policy for Classes
Complete refunds for recreation classes will be made up to three days prior to the beginning of the class. After programs begin, refund will be made only illness, moving from the area, or cancellation of the program by the Parks and Recreation Department. Refunds will be based on the number of classes attended. All requests must be made in person at the Parks and Recreation Office (A.C. Brase Arena) before the end of the class. A $1 administration fee will be charged for each cancellation made by participants.
The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Deptartment offers activities for all ages and skill levels. A full Calendar of Events is online for upcoming recreation activities. Listings of classes and activities are available online; paper copies are distributed quarterly and are available at City Hall and Parks & Recreation facilities. Call 573-339-6340 for details.
Youth Assistance and Youth Sponsor Programs
Individuals or families with a qualifying income (proof that the family or youth participate in the free meal program at Cape Girardeau Public Schools) can apply for a fee reduction. Adults without children must have proof of their income status. It is our belief that we provide an opportunity for all citizens to participate. In addition, any business, church, individual, or other organization can sponsor a qualified child for activities in our programs. Families must have proof of income status.
S.T.A.R. Program (Special Therapeutic Activities in Recreation)
A community therapeutic recreation program serving individuals who are unable to successfully participate in regular recreation programs. Social, leisure, and developmental skills are emphasized to promote the highest level of recreational participation possible. Most individuals with special needs may participate in STAR programs. Persons of all ages who are in special education classes, workshops, or who have leisure needs not met by traditional recreation programs are eligible. This includes those with varying degrees of developmental delays, mental, physical, and learning disabilities and emotional difficulties. For more information or to register, contact Stacey Welter at 573-339-6340 or by swelter@cityofcapegirardeau.org.
