Why City Government?
Few organizations have more of an immediate impact on life than local government. City government provides water, streets, public safety, waste removal, recreation opportunities, jobs through economic development and more.
Department Expectations for Interns/Volunteers
Airport
:
Intern/Volunteer would be expected to give tours and bring in people to join and be interested in the Airport.
City Manager
:
Intern will be assigned to to specific projects and research. They will be expected to creatively think of new ideas for projects and research. Must be professional.
Development Services
:
Interns/Volunteers will be expected to participate in administrative work, construction inspections, creating as-built plans, AutoCAD drafting, assisting the survey crew and preliminary design work.
Finance & Purchasing
:
Interns must be organized and patient. Tasks will include Data Entry and Filing.
Parks and Recreation
:
Volunteers could help with things like park pick up. Interns would help and be apart of things like Friends of the Parks Day, Adopt a Street and City Boards.
Police Department
:
Interns must complete 90-100hrs of patrol, 30-40hrs of traffic, 30-40hrs of detective work, 15hrs for School Resource Officer and an additional study of nuisance, abatement, etc.
Public Information
:
Interns/Volunteers will be used for news coverage, media interest, and helping with projects revolving around City Departments.
Public Library:
Volunteers to reshelf materials and Interns to start new programs and host current porgrams as well as contacting other possible speakers.
Public Meetings, City Council, Advisory Board and Commissions:
Volunteers are needed to serve on the City's 14 Citizen Advisory Board and Commissions. Volunteers will attend regular meetings.
Public Works
:
Intern/Volunteer will be expected to conduct a customer service survey, identify survey questions, develop survey, mail it out, collect the data and submit the results in graphical form.
