|The City Council is the elected governing body for the City of Cape Girardeau. The City Council consists of the Mayor and six City Council Members. The Mayor is directly elected at-large (city-wide) for a four-year term and the City Council Members are elected from six wards for staggered four-year terms. Cape Girardeau is a "home rule" city with the Council-Manager form of government.
City Council meetings are held on the first and third Monday of each month at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at City Hall. The Council also meets at 5 p.m. for a Study Session prior to the each meeting. Both meetings are open to the public. The regular 7 p.m. meeting is broadcast live on Charter channel 993 and on USTREAM. Meeting agendas are posted by the end of the week prior to each meeting.
The following City Council meeting dates in 2013 have been moved:
Monday, Sept. 2, Labor Day - moved to Monday, Sept. 9
Monday, Sept. 16, MML Conference - moved to Monday, Sept. 23
